MINI was first designed by Alec Issigonis of British Motor Corporation (BMC). Design began in 1957 and the world's first MINI was born on August 26, 1959. MINI underwent multiple changes of hands and was eventually acquired by BMW Group in 1994, which has continued to this day. Since 2000, BMW has announced the launch of the MINI's successor model.
